Valentina's doll blanket

Good evening-  I hope this finds you safe and well!  I ended up having to go out in the yuck last night and then early again this morning to watch the grand kids.  I LOVE watching it snow....from inside.  Normally I will hibernate in the winter for 4 or 5 days at a time...till I get a little cabin fever....then I will finally go out!  But not so this winter, with having the grand babies here.  It is rare to have a whole day at home.  I am either there or off on some adventure!  I got tuckered out today so I am just waking up from about a three hour nap!  Sure do love my recliner for napping!!! ; - )

Today's showcase is the keepsake doll quilt I made for Valentina's new baby doll.  She received a cabbage patch baby from her Mama and Papa for Christmas and boy does she love it.  She is always kissing the baby on those chubby cheeks, just as we are always kissing hers!

The quilt is made up of 52 two inch squares that after sew together are 1 1/2" square.  I have this sitting on the seat of the recliner at Jenna's house so you can see how miniature this quilt is.  After piecing together the quilt.  I traced the animals on the fabric with my light box, after I had sewn the panel on the quilt, then embroidered them through the fabric and flannel lining.  I purchased the embroidery/quilt pattern from Nana's Company.  A little row of lace, edges the top of the quilt and then all off the squares were machine quilted.

All that was left to do was to sew on the binding which is done by machine, and finished by hand.
So Valentina has her very own miniature quilt.  It would also be great for doll and bear collectors as it is a miniature size.  I have in storage an old doll buggy and a old doll crib.  It would look really cool in there with some dolls or bears.  One last picture of the quilt with Valentina's dolly.
When Jenna was little, she had a cabbage patch knock off doll.  I couldn't afford $25.00 for a real one and I found a doll that looked very much like them.  She named it Peggy Sue, after Peggy Sue Ramsey, the first real live baby she played with and she loved that doll so much!  Isn't it nice that she wanted her little girl to have one too only Valentina's is smaller.  They now make baby one's.  Her doll doesn't have removable clothes.  It is in a flannel attached sleeper.
Have a wonderful day!  Elaine

PS.  Corinne, you asked if I subscribe to Michelle Wooderson's blog and yes, I do.  Mishy is the one who has given me the inspiration to get going on Project Life books for the grand kids!

A pillow I made for Susie Smith for Tammy Renner

Sorry I haven't been posting too much.  I have been busy with church book work, babysitting, and I have been in a flare up.  This cold snap doesn't help the fibro too much!  Today's post is about a pillow that Susie Smith asked me to make with some new fabric that Stampin UP! has for sale in the Spring mini catalog and some new dies.  She gives her hostess a gift each month at stamping and this month Tammy Renner was the hostess so she received the pillow tonight at Stamp Camp.

I adore these fabrics, they are so pretty!!!  The first thing I did was to fuse fusible web to the back of the fabric, and then I ran the dress dies through the big shot.  After that, I cut my center fabric to size (thank you Sandy Wellumson, this was in one of the scrap bags you gave me), then I cut my border strips out and sewed them onto the center panel.  I then took embroidery thread and stitched around the outer edge to mimic the stitching on the fabric. Next, I sewed the front panel and a liner to the backing, right sides together leaving an opening to turn it inside out.  I pressed it, then took the paper backing off of the dresses and fused them into place.  I stuffed the pillow, sewed the opening closed, then worked on embellishments.  I made 3 yo-yo's and attached them to the pillow with some cute buttons.  The necklaces were stitched on, along with the heart button choker.  The pearl belt was stitched on along with the blue buttons on top of the ribbons I glued on.  The rhinestones had adhesive on them and I carefully placed them on with a paper piercer as they are pretty tiny to handle.
Here are a few more pictures to show the details on the pillow.

I hope that Tammy likes it.
Have a great Tuesday!  Love, Elaine

New Little baby bibs!

Hello everyone!  I'm back!  I decided to bite the bullet and pay a monthly fee for more picture storage as I was locked out of word press, and I really do like blogger better.  And, the good news is that they have added lots of new features since I left, plus uploading this picture was super fast!  So I hope that you are happy that I am back and that you will leave me "lots of love" in the comment section!
These are some little baby bibs that need to be finished up.  All that is left to do on them is add the velcro which I don't seem to find the time to do.  Too busy crocheting I guess!
I had a nice Thanksgiving down at Sarah's house.  It was good to have everyone there, except that Antonio had to work today which was a bummer!  I hope you all had a wonderful day!  Love and hugs!  Elaine

Mini Aprons

I found the cutest little apron pattern on pinterest and just had to try it out!  A few years ago, I bought a box of old apron remnants from the 40's.  The gal I bought them from at the flea market Grandmother worked at an apron factory, and every day when she came home from work, she brought home the remnant fabric pieces from the apron factory.  This gal told me that she had been making stuff with them and she was also selling bundles of the remnants.  So...I thought it would be fun to make some of these bottle aprons.  They are just so cute!
I didn't have a bottle of water which is what they will be on when I am selling them so I put it on a Margarita bottle and went out on my little patio to shoot a picture.  I had to put all my hanging baskets down on the ground as it is so darn windy!
Here is the side view.  It is exactly like a real apron, only miniature!

It loops over the neck of the bottle, just like it does on a real person, and ties in the back.  It has teeny tiny pockets on the front.  One for the straw, and one to add a little note, or a piece of candy.

A good picture of the pocket and the prints.  These would make cute center pieces, at a place setting, or an inexpensive gift for a friend or co worker.  Wouldn't this be cute sitting on someone's desk or in their cubicle.  One done...and I have 15 more cut out.
Stay safe!  Elaine

Halloween hair clip

We had a great time at lunch today with the lunch bunch celebrating Mom's birthday.  Jeannette is always a riot....I love her so!  When I was getting ready to leave Family Affair, I spotted another old friend Shirley Hill!  It was so wonderful to see her and we had a nice visit.  I ended up having a 3 or 4 hour nap today....:-(.  The nap was good :-D and I feel very rested, the not so good part is that I didn't get any accomplished in that time period.  I think my body is trying to get caught up on sleep from the Milwaukee trip, as I took a nap yesterday after the flea market too.  I got a few more things marked and added to the "to go" box for the flea market this weekend.  I decided to cut up the left over fabric pieces that I had left from the Halloween bags project, with the Big Shot and the Circles #2 die to make this Halloween hair clip.  A quick fun project.....and you know how I hate to throw ANYTHING away that can be possibly up cycled into something!  Elaine

A little treat bag for your little trickster!

I love fall, and I love Halloween.  I love the house decorated in oranges, black and fall colors.
I just finished this little treat bag.  I have 2 more of these in process and will be making more.  It almost makes me want to go down in the dungeon, I mean basement, and get out the fall decorations!  Too bad I am too pooped at the moment.  Oh well, maybe I shall get motivated to do it next week as Jenna, Diana, and Mason (and possibly Antonio) will be here next weekend.  And I am sure Mason would LOVE to see Grammies house decked out for Halloween....ghost lights and all!
Any whoo....Aren't these bags fun!?!?  A cute little gift bag to give a treat in for those special people in your life.  It could be filled with candy, popcorn, or a popcorn ball, carmel apple, money, a gift card, little toys, animal crackers........... the ideas are endless!   Just depends on who you want to give it to.
I decided to put a pop can by it so you could tell what size it is.  It looks like a miniature shopping bag, box pleat bottoms and all!  These will be available at the Adams Flea Market.  Stop down and see me!   Elaine

Four more little bibs

A busy day in Mayberry today!  First thing this morning, I went to the Humane Societies rummage sale that was held in the exhibit building in the fair grounds.  I ran into some old friends and had a nice visit with Ruth Petersen.  They had TONS of stuff and I found some treasures.  Then it was back home to do some wheelin' and dealin' on the internet and some sewing to finish this stack of four baby bibs.  This afternoon, I made a trip to the PO to mail out packages, go to the bank, and I went to Pamida to pick up the kitty litter that I had on rain check and a bag a cat food for the cats that was on sale.  So they are all set for awhile!  In Pamida, I ran into Arlene Graham and we chattered for awhile.  I invited her to go to Quilt Expo with us, but I am not sure if she will or not.  If anyone wants to ride along with us, give me a buzz.  We are going on Thursday, Sept 8.  I can fit 8 in the van and we all split the gas and parking costs.
Then it was off to the library to pick up the library scrapbook as I plan on doing a lot of work on it this month.  I really like the new librarian.  He is a very nice man.  And has some great ideas.

It looks like the weather will be great this weekend.  Stop down and see me at the flea market!  Elaine

Go Fish

Here is another little Bapron I finished today.  I love the fish fabric, and I so LOVE my Simplicity bias tape maker.  It folds and presses the fabric all in one step.  Zip zip zip...and your done!

Bapron

Just finished sewing my first Bapron.  I have 6 more cut out that are ready to have bias tape put on.  I am heading down for a nap now.  I have not been feeling so great this week.  I have a bloody eye, and they are itchy and scratchy, plus have been having headaches and nausea.  I hope it goes away soon!  Elaine

Owl pins

These are some felt owl pins that I am currently working on.  I took these six to the Dells on Friday.  I had a doctor's appointment in the morning in Mauston, then I went to the St. Vinnies, restocked the booth at the Dells, and then headed to Milwaukee's to Jenna's house.  The wind was terrible the whole way and the van really sucked up the gas.  :-(   Little Mason greeted me with a big smile when I walked in the door, much to Grammies delight!  I have been having fun loving him up, and spending time with everyone.  Diana and I went to Joann's in the afternoon on Saturday.  It was fun to walk around in there as I haven't been to the city, any city, for months.   I taught Diana how to finger crochet bracelets out of old T shirts and she liked doing that a lot.   They turned out very nice.  We also played the board game Name 5 that I got Diana for Christmas and that was fun.  In between things  I have been crocheting biffer shrugs.  I  figured out how to do the front and back post double crochet thanks to Lady Di, and mine now looks like the pattern, plus I seem to be able to crochet them faster.  I can't find my yarn needle so I will have to wait till I get home to finish sewing up the sides, or perhaps I will buy one while I am here, we will see.  I have 2 done and a third started.
Today we went to church and it was a beautiful service for Palm Sunday.  The Sunday school kids waited till every one was seated then they marched up the aisle waving their palms, they looked so cute, and I couldn't help but think that soon Mason would be marching along with them.  They also plan to send him to school there.  The children then lined up on both sides of the aisles, the congregation began singing and then a procession with the Pastor singing came up the aisle.  The kids then assembled in the front of the church and sang a song.  Plus the choir sang today, and they had trumpets, drums, etc playing.  A very nice moving service.  It is a beautiful old church and I love it there.  Mason was very good.  He likes going to church.  We went to Mr. Churro's for lunch and that was fun.  Mason loves all the Mexican murals on the walls.  He is also a people watcher, and between looking around and eating, he was a happy camper.   I had my very first Mexican hot chocolate.  It is very good, and very rich.  I have never had anything quite like it.  I ordered a burritto, and that was very good too.  They put the sour cream right inside it, and I don't know what all else except that I saw lettuce, tomato, and onion, and I chose ground beef as the meat.  They had all different kinds of meat to choose from, pork, chicken, tongue, and I don't remember what all else.   Then we decided to go over to Roberto and Edith's house to visit them.  The boys were surprised to see me.  I opened up my arms and little Saul came running into them.  I said to him "Oh how I have missed you"...and he let me hold him...and then the other boys took their turns.  It was pretty funny when we were saying our goodbyes.  I thought he was trying to call me missy, but he was saying Miss you, and he said Bye Grandma, which I thought that was so cute as the older boys consider me their Grandma, but I did not know that Saul had picked up on that.  He is now 3, and I have not seen the boys since the middle of December.  Have a great week!  Elaine

A little breath of spring....we need it!

I thought that we all needed a little breath of spring today.  And the only way I can give it to you is to show you the dozen flower pins I finished last week.  I had made these in the fall but didn't get the buttons and pin backs put on till last week.  Don't they have a springy feel to them!?!  Let me know what you think, I love to hear your comments.  They really make my day!
I just got home from Diane's about an hour ago and boy has the temperature dropped and quickly.  I am not a glove wearer and boy were my hands freezing by the time I got things carried in to the house.  I went to Practical Cents and found a nice thick set of King size flannel sheets which I will cut up for lining for bags, table runner's etc.  Any where that I would normally use Warm and Natural batting.  I love that batting but it has become so expensive.  I think I am going to have to save up and buy a huge roll of it when Joann's put's it on special but in the mean time, flannel works great for most projects.   A lot of yardage in a king size flat sheet, fitted sheet and 2 pillow cases for $6.00!  I also bought a small ball of yarn, and that was it for today.  I saw some people at the check out with some nice yarn that I missed out on....:-( .   But Diane was so kind to give me two rolls of very pretty variegated yarn that she had down stairs that she did not want.  I finished 2 more towels today, so I now have 3 new styles to shoot pictures of to show you.  I also am crocheting the teeniest little hearts.  They are piddly, but oh so cute!  Stay warm!!!!  Elaine

Brooke and her quilt

First thing this morning when Brooke woke up........and woke me up, she told me that she wanted to finish her quilt and make it into a real quilt.  Aunt Elaine still needed a little time to wake up so Brooke finished reading her book that we got from the library yesterday, and of course was chattering in between reading!  After bowls of Captain Crunch, I talked her into adding more rows to her quilt.  She only had it about 12" x 12" to begin with.  So the first thing she did was to add some more rows to it.  She was so pleased and proud of herself when she had it all done.  She is going to use it as a little blanket to hold on to.  She does that with the baby quilt I made her.  Kind of like a little Linus blanket I said.  She laughed and said yes.  She also made another card this morning.  She kind of had mixed feelings about whether or not she wanted to go home, but she told me that her family was missing her and that she had better go home.  But she said she had a really great time and had a lot of fun.  The house is quiet now without her chatter.  But Diane was over this afternoon, and we exchanged our Christmas presents, and Jenna just called, so it really hasn't been that quiet yet!  I am sure that Taffy is going to miss her as Taffy was eating up all the extra attention she was getting, and Molly will miss her to in her own way as she likes to watch people even though she is not so keen about them touching her.  I have been working on stitching towels, and I have stitched 4 so far this week, and I am almost done with a fifth one.  I have a new Chicken one to show you for tomorrow.  It sure turned out cute!  Until tomorrow....Elaine

Rag Bag

This is a picture of the rag bag I made while I was gone on the quilting retreat.  I had been planning on teaching this class and I now have a date set for Monday, January 31st.  It is made with the Big Shot and the scalloped square die. The flower fold die is used to make the flower that I have attached to it. I attached it to as a pin back so it is removable, and I can take it off if I want to throw the bag in the wash.  I have been using this as a purse and I just love it.  I have a plastic purse organizer in it and it fits in it perfect, and it is so easy to find everything in my purse.
I made my Cauliflower soup tonight and it sure was yummy!  I have been working on some Christmas presents today, and listening to Christmas music.  Beth was over to pick up some snail this afternoon and we had a nice little visit.  I ran over to the church this morning to pick up the snail, made a delivery, stopped at Family Dollar. I can hardly believe that today is over already.  Where do all the hours go!?!?!

Burp clothes for Mason

Hello!  Another busy day in Mayberry!  Today I have some pictures of some burp clothes I made for Mason and his mommy.  He is a spitter upper so she goes through a lot of them.  Today, I slept in till almost noon.  I was so tired out.  I worked on the library scrapbook from about 2 o'clock till 8 o'clock and got a lot done.  I got quite a few pages either finished or started, and I have everything that I currently have for the project all printed.  All the photo's and all the newspaper articles.  A very big job, and I am glad that part is over.  The rest should go fairly quickly, and smoothly.  The part that will take time is typing up all the captions for under the pictures.  I decided that I will wait till the very end to do that.  Soooo.....I just finished eating supper a little while ago, and packed up all my tools for tomorrow's card box class.  I still need to do the cutting for it, which I may or may not do yet tonight.  We will see.  Right now I need to lay down and relax awhile.  Until tomorrow.....adieus!

Tessalating Pinwheels

This is a little mini table topper that I made for Sarah and Zach for their anniversary.  They were married 2 years on the first of November.  Boy has that time flied by!
I have been at Jenna's since Thursday, and we had a really nice visit and we were both sorry to see it end.  On Thursday night it was her sister-in-law Edith's birthday and we went to a Mexican restaurant that I had not been to before and it was a fun nice.  An interesting place, very colorful with murals, a food cart for decoration yet it had fresh fruit on it, etc., and they had things hanging from the ceiling.  I took a bunch of pictures.  Maybe I will put a few on here to show you.  I will have to see how they turned out after I get them loaded on to the computer.  I had a wonderful time playing with little Mason.  He is so much fun, and it is fun to make him laugh and smile.  Jen and I are already planning a return trip in a few weeks.  She would like me to come for the Dominguez Thanksgiving, and then go with them to our family Thanksgiving at my sister's in Clintonville, and then come back to Milwaukee with them.  So that sounds like what the plan will be.  On the way home today, I stopped at the booth in the Dells and took out the Halloween items and put in a few things.  Then I met Sarah and Zach in the Kohl's parking lot to give one another some things, then I headed over to Walmart, and back home.  The cats are happy that I am back!

From this....to that!

Hello-  This morning I worked on another class that I will be having on Sat. Dec. 4th.  I am going to teach how to turn a Stampin' UP! file folder into a portfolio for a junior legal pad.  It is really cute.  I will be showing an example of it, and the Box class that I will be teaching on Monday, the 22nd, at Monday nights stamping party.  Both will make great gifts for your year round and holiday gift giving.
This afternoon, I went to the Rapids with Lady Di.  Bernie had his haircut.  He get's his haircut more than I do....lol....but that is okay with me as it gives us an excuse to go bumming!  I saw that the flavor of the day was Snicker doodles (?) at Culver's so our first stop was a trip through the drive through.  It was yummy.  A very nice treat!  I looked in the Bethesda thrift store while Di was as Bath and Body works and I found a few treasures, 10 yards of cheese cloth for $2.49 that I plan on using for decorating Mummy candy bars next year for Halloween, a package of non skid material for twenty nine cents that you use on the bottom of children's pajamas.  Any guesses as to who will probably be getting some homemade pj's from Grammy in the future!?!?  And yes, Corinne, little Mason does have me wrapped around his little finger!  Hook, line, and sinker!  And I found a bag at the thrift store with a package of vellum baby boy items (how perfect is that!) and two sheets of dimensionals for $1.49.  Gotta love it!  Also a package of tiny notecards with old Santa's on them, probably from the fifties or sixties that I fell in love with, for 29 cents, and I plan on revamping them into something else. We also made a stop at Cotton Thimble (the fabric store) as Di was looking for a special ruler for a friend of her's which they didn't have, but Di found a kit that she decided that she needed to make a quilt.  Di ran into Staples, then it was time to pick Bernie back up.  We decided to eat at Arby's for supper and then headed back home.  A very nice enjoyable afternoon!

Last time I was at Jenna's she sent this little outfit of Mason's home with me.  She had bought it for him and he only got to wear it a couple of times as the pants were too short.  She said she would never buy a one piece outfit like that for him again.  I had the same problem with her as a baby, and toddler.  She was really long waisted and could never wear those type outfits.  So she asked me if I could make it into a shirt for him so he could wear it a little longer.  I just finished revamping it.  So here it is, the "before", and the "after"!  Gotta love that little raccoon!

Rag Quilts

Hello-  I am really tired so this will be short tonight.  I was at the flea market today, and then made some stops on the way home.  I got a few groceries, headed home to put my ice cream away, then headed back to the laundry mat to wash these two rag quilts that I made while I was in Milwaukee.  If you are looking for a very nice gift for some one for Christmas, Anniversary or Wedding Gift these are great.  They was and wear so well.  These pictures don't do them justice.  I probably should have waited till day time to take photo's of them.  The lighting wasn't the greatest. My cats love them, the minute I laid them out to photograph, they both had to get over there and I had to tell them to stay down, as they wanted to hop on them.  8-D   Speaking of cats, I saw a teeny tiny kitten pop out of my garage tonight.  I was out there breaking down boxes for recycling and the little squirt squeeze through a tiny crack.  She is white mostly with a little black but she has a calico tail, and her tail looks like Taffy!  She wouldn't come near me at all (which is good) as I can see how people end up with cat houses....as I am a sucker for a kitten.  But 2 cats is my limit.  She is little, I am guessing about 4 weeks old or so.  She was probably born while I was gone.  Adios.  Have a great day!  Elaine

Baby Cakes is coming to town....do da...do da!

Jenna called me today at the flea market, and they are coming to town on Tuesday!  I am so excited.  I can't wait to see them, and little Mason.  It has been a long 3 weeks!  When she was saying goodbye on the phone, she said to me, make sure your camera is fully charged Grandma!  And she laughed.  As she knows it will be.  Mason will have another "photo" shoot with Grammy.  I sure hope he remembers me.  Any whoo...on my "to do list" was to make these "Pee Pee Tee Pee's or Wee Wee Wigwams" for Mason.  So I popped out a batch of them tonight.  They are quick and easy to make and I plan on making some of them to sell.  I am not sure how many she wants so maybe a few of these will be for sale.  When she knew she was having a boy, I had told her that I had found this pattern for them (a couple of times).  She wouldn't really say anything, and frankly, I think she thought it was a kooky idea, until she had her baby boy and got squirted on, and squirted on.  LOL  She has been using wash clothes to put over him while changing him, and now thinks they are a GREAT idea.  So I have to chuckle about that one.
Yesterday, was a busy one, and the day was not at all how I had planned.  I had emailed Kate at the Craft Mall in the Dells to see if there were any available spaces on Thursday.  I wasn't sure if she would remember me, I rented down there years ago when I had the store.  Any how she emailed me back late Friday morning and said of course she remembered me, and to give her a call.  So I did this around noon, and we talked about what kind of stuff I was currently making, she looked at pictures of my booth at the flea market, and she told me she had a small space available and could give me a bigger one when something opened up.  She bumped me up on the list because I had rented there before.  She told me that she would really like some stuff in the space because it was their big weekend in the Dells.  I told her that I had a doctor's appointment in Mauston and would see what I could do.  So I quick hopped in the shower, grabbed a small table from here, a little red ladder that Sarah had given me for Mother's Day that I thought would look cute with towels displayed on them, made a quick stop at the flea market and tried to quick pick a variety of stuff.  I would have taken more but needed to leave for my appointment at 2 so headed out with what I had.  I went to my doctor's appointment and got down to the Dells around 4.  All my stuff had to be coded so I sat in the van with the window open and I would write down the items and code them, then take them into the mall to my space.  I did this over and over again till I got done around 7:45.  I signed the paper work, looked around a little bit till they closed at 8.  So it is set up.  I still need to put more stuff in as I have wall space left, but at least it is not empty and hopefully I will sell some stuff this weekend.  I will go down sometime next week and fill it up.  I knew it would be too busy down there this weekend to even try to do it.  It is fun to be back in there again.  I enjoyed it when I rented there before.  If you get a chance, stop in there and check it out.  Just ask the gals at the desk and they can show you where it is located.  As you walk in the front door and towards the checkout, it is the last aisle before the desk.  It is very close to the desk.
I hope you all are having a great weekend.  Elaine

It's A Jungle Out There!

This is one of the two pillows I made for Mason's room.  I also made a matching dresser topper too.  His room is done in a jungle theme and is adorable.
The days have been flying by, and as you can see it has been several days since I have posted.  On Sunday night I had another FM flare up which lasted all of Monday and into Tuesday.  I also think I may have had a touch of the flu as I had slight chills, and very weak legs.  Any whoo...I am glad to be past that, although I feel some aching coming on again so am headed to bed.  I have had several batches of company the past few days.  Beth Griffith was over yesterday for a visit to see how "Grandmahood" was going.  I have now joined the "elite" club which she has been enjoying for a year now.  Her little Kaylee will be a year old soon,  and they are having her 1st birthday party this Saturday.  How the time flies!
I went to the Hwy 13 & 21 restaurant Tuesday night with my neighbor Debi Wehby and we each enjoyed omelets and a long visit.  I also got our second project ready for next Monday's stamping event and we will be making an adorable buckle card as one of our projects.  Today I made a couple of sample cards and have spent quite a bit of time the past few days talking to my girls on the phone, emailing, and iming.  Sarah and I are making some plans to do some things together and of course I have to keep up on the latest with Mason.  This weekend he tried to grab a toy that Diana was holding out to him so that is his latest trick!  Jen gave her notice to Olive Garden yesterday and that was a big event in her life to give her job up but she feels this will be best for her taking good care of her family and when the time is right, she will go back to work.
Lois Christensen came over for a visit this afternoon, and bearing gifts.  She brought me a bag of wool as she knows that I make things out of it.  So that was really nice and we had a long visit.  Tomorrow is Quilt Expo in Madison and I am really excited about going to that.  It is one of the highlights of my year!  Have a great day!  Elaine
